To cooperate internationally on issues related to the environment and the climate is crucial to reach the Swedish Environmental Quality Objectives, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and multilateral environmental agreements. The Swedish EPA is together with the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management, the Swedish Chemicals Agency, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute and the Council of the Baltic Sea States cooperating with several countries of strategic importance for the global work on environment and climate.
The Swedish EPA is now publishing an annual report for the year 2018 covering the agencies’ cooperation with strategical countries within the field of environment and climate.
The Swedish EPA’s activities have for instance contributed to the
- prevention of waste in Brazil, focusing on marine litter,
- education of environmental regulators in India covering environmental permitting of industries and less pollutive production,
- management of hazardous household waste in South Africa for reduced pollution of harmful substances.
During 2018 cooperation projects where carried out with Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, China, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, the United States of America, and Vietnam. Several activities also took place as a part of the cooperation within the Arctic Council, the Barents Euro-Arctic Council, and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
