Target group
The guidance is intended for
- providers of plastic bags and those required to provide information to consumers.
Examples of providers of plastic bags are shops, pharmacies and restaurants.
Informing consumers
The ordinance (2016:1041) on plastic bags states that the organisations and parties that provide plastic bags to consumers professionally are required to provide information on the environmental impact of plastic bags.
This means that they are to inform consumers about:
- the environmental impact of plastic bags;
- benefits of reduced consumption of plastic bags;
- measures that can be taken to reduce the consumption of plastic bags.
- The information for consumers is to contain all three points stated above.
Purpose and aims of the ordinance
Information for consumers should satisfy the purpose and aims stated in the ordinance.
The purpose of the ordinance is to:
- reduce the consumption of plastic bags;
- reducing littering;
- use resources more efficiently.
The aims are to reduce the consumption of plastic bags in general and to ensure that the number of thin plastic bags does not exceed:
- 90 bags per person per year by 31 December 2019, and
- 40 bags per person per year by 31 December 2025.
Target groups for the information
The target group is all consumers who receive or buy plastic bags.
